Dear Parents

Today term ended with Prize Giving. Our special guest, Maggie Alphonsi, gave a very engaging address about her achievements and how she has worked to achieve her goals. Children and parents alike were inspired.

Our Heads of School, Annabel and Hector gave a fantastic speech, on behalf of Year 8, about their journey, or should I say voyage, through the school.

To end the afternoon, we commissioned our Year 8 leavers to take the values they have learned here and make a difference in their senior schools and in the world.

Earlier in the day Year 8 led a wonderful assembly in which they expressed their appreciation for everything the teachers and staff at Barrow Hills have done for them. Year 8 also took the lead in the end of term leavers’ Mass.

We also managed to fit in the House Art competition and the Art and Design Technology show on Thursday evening. Thank you to all the parents who attended and to Mrs Hatcher, Mr Conway, Mr Fisher and Mr Clarke for inspiring the children to create such great work.

A great end to a fantastic school year! My thanks to all the children for their hard work and enthusiasm, to the staff for their dedication and commitment and to the parents for their support of the school and its values.

With best wishes for a restful and safe summer break,

I want you to be happy, always happy in the Lord.  I repeat, what I want is your happiness.  Let your tolerance and patience be obvious to everyone: the Lord is very near.  There is no need to worry; but if there is anything you need, pray for it, asking God for it with a grateful heart.  That peace of God, which is so much greater than we can understand, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Jesus Christ.  Finally, fill your minds with everything that is true, good and pure.  Keep doing all the things that you have learnt from me and have been taught by me.  Then the God of peace will be with you. Phil 4:4-9

This is the passage which I always use in both my final Pastoral Newsletter of the year and our End-of-Year Mass.  It is one of the most important passages for putting into a nutshell some of the best advice for how to live.  This is what I want our leavers to take with them as they leave us; these are the words I want to ring in their ears in the days, weeks, months and many years to come.

Let us ask ourselves if we are parlour Christians who love to chat about how things are going in the Church and the world, or if we are apostles on the go, who confess Jesus with their lives because they hold Him in their hearts.  Those who confess Jesus know that they are not simply to offer opinions but to offer their very lives.
