Harvest Festival

7th October 2011

Today saw the culmination of an industrious week preparing for Harvest Festival. The children in Pre-Prep worked hard painting a stunning display and baking bread.  The mums have also been very busy as they packed boxes and helped deliver the gifts to local elderly residents today. A very big, special thank you must go to Mrs Kourpas who made the wonderful display in Chapel. Following a lovely service led by Mrs Nicholls, the Year 3 children went with a band of mums to Haslewey Centre, the Clock House and to Dower House to give out the harvest gifts.  I have to say, this is one of my favourite activities of the school year, as once they overcome their nervousness, the children really love chatting to our elderly neighbours whom they meet on this trip. At the Clock House in Milford they met a gentleman called Archie, who is 91 years old, and they were captivated by the glass window decorations that he had made. At Haslewey, a very proud gentleman told the children that his great grandson had been a Head Boy at Barrow Hills some years ago. The third group of children went to Dower House with Mr Wardell and entertained the residents with a short musical performance. This went down so well that the audience just could not resist, and joined in with the singing too! In fact, everyone was so disappointed when the performance came to an end that the children decided to recite their poem from Thursday's House Poetry Competition. which was very well received!
