CharitiesThe charity work at Barrow Hills is carried out by a committee consisting of a group of parents, teachers, volunteers and pupils who want to make a difference under the remit of 'Who is our neighbour?' The committee meets regularly to organise events and raise funds for a variety of causes, in particular Linden Lodge School in Wimbledon and St Benoît School in Burkina Faso, as well as for other worthy causes such as Children in Need, Macmillan Cancer Support and the Haiti Appeal. Our most substantial support is currently directed at St Benoît School. Over the past six years, we have raised over £30,000 through activities such as auctions, musical concerts, bike rides, raffles, cake sales, a Race Night, the Summer Fayre and even worm charming! This support has funded the decoration of the school, erecting a perimeter wall and building new toilets, a kitchen and, most recently, a new block comprising a library, a computer room, a training room and a school office. We devote the proceeds of the Lent Appeal to Linden Lodge School and offer practical support by helping to set up their summer camp at Woodlarks in Farnham. We also invite some of their pupils to spend a day at Barrow Hills each year. This gives our children valuable experience in understanding disability and how difficult life is for people who are blind and may also have other learning and physical differences.
