School Council

The School Council is a distinctive feature of Barrow Hills.  It consists of pupil representatives of every class from Year 3 through to Year 8.

The children create the agenda for the meetings which take place about every two weeks under the guidance of Mr Marsh.  Every child in the school has a voice and is encouraged to ask questions of the school managment via the class representatives.

Over the past two years, the School Council has been focusing on the goal of turning Barrow Hills into a fully sustainable school. We have been working on a range of initiatives including, in particular, a recycling programme, as a result of which we have earned Green Flag status and become a Fair Trade School.

We now recycle glass, ink cartridges, metals, paper, plastic and textiles.  We compost food waste, having the overall aim of sending nothing to landfill. We also save water, make sure we turn our lights off when not in use and grow some of our own fruit and vegetables.
