SpiritualityBarrow Hills takes seriously its obligation to provide an environment in which the spiritual needs of the individual members of our school community can be met. Above all, we want to know that every child in this school, regardless of creed or denomination, knows that they are loved and embraced, because a happy child is a child who will succeed and give of their best. We believe that providing the children with an experience of the love of God will help them to achieve their best not only at school, but in later life. Being a Catholic school we are careful to ensure that Masses are celebrated at the beginning and end of each term and on important Church feasts and Holy Days of Obligation. The year groups from Year 3 upwards enjoy their own termly Mass, as well as class patron saint celebrations. Prayers are said at the start and end of each day, and grace is said at lunchtime. We believe that it is of equal importance to support the spiritual lives our children's parents, and to this end parents are encouraged to feel part of the prayer life of the school by joining me in the chapel each week for a half-hour liturgy called 'Parent Prayers' and also for weekly Exposition. Not forgetting how vital it is for our staff members to be supported in prayer, we hold a weekly 'Staff Prayers' in the chaplaincy every Tuesday morning, when we come together to pray quietly and confidentially for whatever need there might be. We are truly blessed to have, at the very heart of our school, a magnificent chapel which is used regularly not only for whole-school assemblies, but for the various liturgies which occur through the year. Importantly, it is also available to all members of the school community as a quiet and sacred space where people can come and sit and reflect.
