School historyBarrow Hills 60th Anniversary is being celebrated this year. Barrow Hills School was originally a boarding school for the young boys of St George's College in Weybridge. Barrow Hills School was originally located at Longcross, near Chertsey. However, it was subject to a compulsory purchase by the Ministry of Works who needed the land to build a tank testing ground. The boarders then moved to our current location in Witley, taking the school name of Barrow Hills with them. The school at that time was run by the Josephite Order who then sold it in 1990 to a group of parents who were determined to keep it going as a school. Thereafter it became a co-educational day school. Interestingly, the actual building began its life as a private home built in 1909, though during the Great War it served as a military hospital. The full history of the school is celebrated in its own 'This is Your Life' book, written by our Head of History, Andre Hodgson-King. Copies are available from the school reception at a cost £10.
